Across Africa

Belinda KirkComment

In January 2016, I will set off from Freetown in Sierra Leone on my Bajaj BM 150CC Expedition bike and head east towards Mombasa. This is a fact finding expedition to establish how civil war and the bush meat trade has impacted Wild life and to meet with individuals and organisations that are putting in effort to try and save some of the animals listed as being endangered. This Expedition will be split up into 4 chapters with Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia and Ivory Coast being the first, this chapter will take approximately 60 days to complete.

I am funding this first chapter myself with the hope of obtaining a grant once the data and footage has been publicised. If there is anyone interested in obtaining more information about this Expedition or would like to possibly join me then please feel free to email me at robgrinham010169@gmail.com and I will gladly share my plans with you.

The main aim of the project is to promote awareness of the local conservation and of the indigenous communities. As i would love to educate as many young people and adults of the plight of both topics around the world from PNG to the embera people, as well as countless others by crossing the Darien and attempting it alone or with another team mate or 2. The route will mainly consist of past expedition from organisation of good standing and connect with local businesses and people for the logistical and red tape side of things.

Solo 500k salt flat desert walk with my bathtub

CommunityBelinda KirkComment

I'm aiming to be the first man to solo walk around the desert, bur not just across which has already been achieved. I will have Sheila with me. Sheila's not a person, but a 45 kg bathtub! The trip will be some 2/3 months in duration - my bath will be on a 2 wheeled cart. Having already solo sailed down the Amazon river in sheila, then took her to the top of Kilimanjaro on my back a month ago, I am now ready for my 3rd challenge. After this next year I plan to para-glide with sheila 4000 miles following the mighty Amazon river from glacier to sea.

Walking the Congo River - Teammates Welcome

Join a TeamBelinda KirkComment

Hello everyone,

I'm just beginning preparing for this journey and am collecting information necessary to put this trip together. Information like visas, equipment, expectations, route planning etc etc. I haven't been able to find too much information about doing this sort of thing in the DRC. I was wondering if anyone had any firsthand information they could share with me about their experience in the DRC or if anyone could refer me to some websites which may hold more information that could benefit me for my journey.

Finally if anyone could put me in contact with some experienced trekkers who have been in or are in the DRC then that would be gold. A little information about the trek:Im looking to do the walk by the main route of the river obviously. I plan to do this alone with guides that can take me along the river between city to city. Not sure yet how long this will take as I am not completely aware of the scale of development along the River in some areas. Still haven't decided to go upriver or down. This walk will be completed to raise awareness in the importance of the Congo River as a transportation route to Central Africa from the Atlantic and to help boost awareness of eco-tourism in the DRC.

Any questions for me feel free to shoot
