I am in the planning stages of this trek which covers both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. The 3000+Kms trail starts at Cape Reinga and finishes at Bluff, with the possibility of adding Stewart Island as the icing on the cake.....!My plan is to start in early November 2015 (the actual date has yet to be decided as I am flexible in this regard) and I expect it to take about 6 months, this includes plenty of down time for R and R.The Te Araroa trail opened on 3rd December 2011 and has become one of the most sought after long distance trails in the world. It covers a diverse terrain from the open sands of 90 mile beach to the towering snow capped mountains of the rugged and pristine wilderness of the Southern Alps.
See the link below for details:http://www.teararoa.org.nzI am seeking anyone who might be interested in joining me for this adventure and who has the time to spare.I should add that whilst I am an experienced trekker and have done many of the great treks on the South Island, I am not interested in setting any land speed records, rather I am more interested in enjoying the experience.I am a mature (make that old) male who lives in Sydney, Australia and I would love to hear from anyone who may be interested in this adventure, or who simply wants more information. Also anyone who has already completed the trail.....any tips and tricks would be appreciated.
