Join a TeamCommentThe Vertical Nepal team; Dupre, Andres Martos and Schletty will travel to Nepalwith several potential unclimbed 7,000+ meter high peaks to investigate, in multiple districts. During the projected two month long they will perform a reconnaissance of these hidden slopes by foot to choose a peak, determine future climbing strategies and supply needs.
During this time the team will implement their education, science and humanitarian programs.Guides Lonnie Dupre was born in 1961 and raised on a Minnesota country farm. He is descended on his mothers side from Jacques Cartier, the French explorer and founder of Quebec. A natural explorer from a very young age, he has 25 years of expeditions under his belt, most recently the first successful solo summit of Denali in January. Lonnie currently lives in Grand Marais, Minnesota enjoying woodworking and backcountry skiing in the Quetico/Boundary Waters Wilderness of the Minnesota/Canadian border area.Elas de Andrs Martos Elas de Andrs Martos grew up in the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains of Spain. Astonished by the offerings of the mountains, Elas rejected a well-established family business of three generations, the expectation to satisfy traditional obligations, and the comforts of a predictable life for the sole purpose of finding himself (and whatever is up there) in the mountains. As a young athlete he understood the concept of disciplined training as a means for overcoming difficulties and pursuing objectives. Today he is a professional guide from the ice of the Rocky Mountains to the peaks of the Andes and Alaska.Bridget Schletty was born and raised in St.Paul, Minnesota. While studying abroad in Spain in 2002, she was introduced to the challenge of negotiating mounds of rock and ice, it was then that she began to seek opportunities to venture into the mountains. Bridget has worked many years as a language teacher, coach, and trip leader, exploring with her students both the local wilderness and Hispanic cultures abroad.
Currently she spends winters in Ouray, CO working as a Spanish translator, and summers in Ashford, WA as a staff member for RMI Expeditions. Whether biking, climbing, skiing, or dashing through the woods, Bridget is always up for outdoor adventure and athletic challenge.Dates: October through November 2015Price: $4,995 (Includes all transportation, volunteering, guides, lodging, and meals once arrived inKatmandu. Amazon River Run
Trip ReportCommentIn June 2015, two adventurers set off on an expedition to kayak the 4,000 miles of the longest and largest river in the world, the Amazon. They started at the source, 4,500m high up in the Peruvian Andes, and followed one of the seven natural wonders of the world through some of the worlds most inhospitable and deadly environments to Belm in Brazil where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean.
We faced a huge number of mentally and physical challenges. The trip began by walking 400 miles up and over the Andes, reaching 4,500m peaks on a regular basis. Having walked for 36 days the pairkayaked an arduous 10+ hours a day for the remaining 93 days. Food was rationed to what we were able to carry, stocking up with additional items when we passedthrough communities and towns. We were on the river for months on end with only one another to talk to. The every day stresses builtas we grew more tired further downstream. We will need to motivate ourselves and each other in order to push through these barriers and reach our destination.
The river is home to some of the worlds deadliest species including huge catfish, vicious bull sharks, aggressive crocodiles, flesh-eating piranha, giant centipedes, deadly spiders, electric eels and the worlds largest snake, the Anaconda. Its also home to many of the worlds rarest species including the endangered pink dolphin and the threatened Andean Condor. There was the risk of picking up one of the seven potentially fatal diseases contracted through the water and its marshy banks. We needed all our wits and negotiating skills on multiple sections of the river from the infamous Red Zone, the coca growing and trafficking area of Peru, to the pirate infested mangroves of the lower regions in Brazil.
We battled with high altitudes, heat, humidity, tropical storms, insects, wild animals and tribes at war to name a few. The climate varied along the route, starting at below freezing near the source. Downstream temperatures soared with extreme heat and brutal humidity, changing in an instant to tropical thunderstorms that lasted for days at a time. This is the Amazon River Run.

Looking for advice on getting into the Expedition industry
Funding, CommunityComment
Good morning everybody!
My names William, 21 years of age and a bit of young gun but dying to get into the expedition scene and I'm currently backpacking Cambodia. I'll be here for another week to pick up my visa for Vietnam so I can spend a month motorbiking through the country. Anyways, I have till august to decide if I want to attend university this fall which I will if I'm unable to work something out in the mean time. I'm quite bored of the backpacking life style. I could care less about sitting on beaches, night life and tourist attractions. I almost feel like there's something wrong with me. People dream of backpacking the world and so did I. I worked for two years to be able to do this. But I'm already bored of it.
Sure I could spend money on pre-packaged excursions but I think they are ridiculous and not that exciting. Those tours are designed for nothing to go wrong and I hate that.I grew up in Utah, surrounded by sports and the out doors. For me every weekend was an injury. I've dabbled in Boxing, MMA, Football, snowboarding, wakeboarding, longboarding, skateboarding, dirt bikes, four wheelers, street bikes, mountain biking, rock climbing, cliff jumping, kayaking, rafting, repelling, raced through the sand dunes, I even used to climb up the mountain I lived on in a T shirt and shorts and tennis shoes just to see how far i could make it when you'd still be sinking up to your waist in snow. I'm recently PADI certified, CPR and CERT certified but could probably use a refresher.I used to run 16 miles a day when i didn't have a carto see my girlfriend, rain or snow. And have a reputation of pushing myself to do things most sane people wouldn't do. Getting the shit beat out of me, literally puts a smile on my face. The more uncomfortable the situation, the more comfortable I am.
I love being knee deep in a shit situation that freaks other people out. Its not so much that I'm an adrenaline junkie either, because I don't feel like I am. I just enjoy pushing myself and understand the cause and effects of situations.I have big aspirations for my life like most and i don't want to waste my time. I'm putting this out there as a call for help, I've looked and asked around for about a year now. I've realised the backpacking lifestyle isn't for me. I need something a bit more rough. Something that involves brother hood. I want to be put in situations where each others survival lies completely in one another hands and all we have is each others trust in the middle of god damn nowhere.I don't have a lot of money, but I don't need much. I'm currently down to a single T shirt and have been showering in my clothes for the last month to keep them clean. If there's anyone out there, I'll work and earn my keep in the remotest places on the planet. Scorching sun to killer blizzards I'm your man. I might not be as experience as others my age, but I love to learn and I'll put everything I have into making sure the teams taken care of.
Cheers, from Cambia-William
