Calling Expedition Medics who've worked in Kilimanjaro

Community, Join a TeamBelinda Kirk

Dear expedition medics,

I’m recruiting for research looking to explore the experiences of expedition medics in treating local participants whilst on expedition to Kilimanjaro. This research is being conducted via the University of Plymouth and has received ethics approval. Research will be conducted via remote interview.
If you are interested in helping or know anyone who may be interested please ask them to contact me on Alexandra.taylor@postgrad.plymouth.ac.uk . A small amount of further information is provided below but I can send out further details and a participant information sheet/consent form if anyone is interested.

The selection criterion are:
1. must have been on a trip up Kilimanjaro as a medic in the last 5 years
2. must have been required to treat local participants
3. must not have been working in a humanitarian capacity

To Participate:
A time will be arranged with you, at your convenience, for the interview which will be around 30-60 minutes. Interviews will be conducted over zoom and recorded utilising zoom. You will be asked questions relating to your experience and perceptions of treating any local members of your expedition party.

Purpose:
We expect the findings of this research to be presented at an academic conference and published in a scholarly research article. This research will provide evidence to support best practice and a need for duty of care to all expedition participants. This could take the format of a guideline for care of local expedition staff, which may allow us to reduce morbidity and mortality in this population whilst on expedition.

If you are interested please do get in touch!
