The best thing about Wild Night Out is how inclusive it is – the concept is simply to spend time outside doing whatever you enjoy, walking, cycling or chatting around a camp fire whilst raising money for two great charities - Youth Adventure Trust and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award - which enables disadvantaged kids to access the same. Big super cool adventures are also included, just not compulsory.
Which is handy as last year Wild night out fell on a weekend I was due to be working, so myself and my two trusty adventurous (honestly!) friends Louise and Amanda had a BBQ and bivvied out in another friend’s garden. This ticked all the boxes: spending time outside with friends, but close enough to home to get back to work looking vaguely presentable the next morning. It was also another great opportunity to try and convince my puppy that camping is a fun activity, and monsters aren’t lurking behind every tree – this is still work in progress and she ended up having her own wild night in the kitchen.
This year we have certainly gone up a few gears – Wild Night Out 2017 coincidentally falls on the weekend we (still the same trusty band of three!) are walking 100KM of the Cotswold Way to raise funds for Youth Adventure Trust. It’s going to take us over 24 hours, including walking through the night, so if that doesn’t count as a wild night out then we don’t know what does! We’ve raised £1400 so far for this fab charity and are determined to complete our challenge – and of course to stay friends so that we can up the ante yet again for Wild Night Out 2018! In case this blog catches you at a generous moment, our Virgin Giving page is below – any donations very welcome...
Wild night out gives us all another reason to get out and have any type of adventure – anything from sleeping in a friend’s garden to walking 100KM overnight, the possibilities are endless to enjoy whatever type of adventure you love, whilst knowing you’re raising funds to enable disadvantaged kids to get out and do the same. What’s not to love?
