5 years ago (following a full scale manic episode in Italy) I was diagnosed Bipolar. Now I'm running 1250 miles from Rome To Home to share my story and keep men alive by talking – starting Friday 25th August 2017 at The Colosseum and finishing 65 days later at The London Eye on Saturday 28th October.
My mission with Rome To Home is to share my story, to raise £12,000 and a tonne of awareness for CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably) and to take on an amazing adventure-challenge.
By using Rome To Home as a platform to share my experiences with Bipolar, I hope to play my part in normalising the conversation surrounding mental health issues, to give hope to others suffering out there and ultimately to encourage others (particularly guys) to speak up when they’re struggling the most. The adventure’s also just as much about thanking all the incredible people who have supported my journey overcoming depression over the past 5 years, and to take on an amazing adventure in its own right – to push my boundaries, to test my limits, to self-medicate (channelling my expendable energy into this positive external physical challenge) and who knows, maybe encourage a few others to take on an adventure of their own.
My fundraising target of £12,000 will pay for CALM's helpline to stay open for 12 days, during which they will receive an average of 200 calls a night from guy's considering taking their own lives. With 12 guys taking their own lives every single day in the UK, your donations towards my efforts genuinely will save lives, so thank you for any kind donations you can offer via my website.
Fancy running with me? I’d love for you to join me!
My ETA for arriving at Newhaven (East Sussex) is Monday 23rd October. From there I’ll be running to Eastbourne, to Ringmer, to Sevenoaks, to Bromley, before the final blast to Greenwich Park and along the Thames to finish at The London Eye on Saturday 28th October. The more the merrier guys so please do get in touch!
