On 29 April 2013, adventurer Dave Jacka will attempt to become the first person with quadriplegia to fly solo around the coastline of Australia.
The On a Wing a Chair Round Australia Flight will showcase the innovation and determination of an individual with a disability and will achieve a world first.On a Wing and a Chair Ltd is a not-for-profit organisation that's supporting Dave's flight, its aim - to raise the public's expectations of what people with disabilities can achieve and provide inspiration to all. The flight will take approximately four and half weeks to complete and be supported by a crew of seven, in two support planes.The flight will encompass Dave flying to over 40 rural towns and cities around the coastline of Australia. He will conduct talks at the airfields upon landing at stop over locations to spread the On a Wing a Chair message. On a Wing a Chair will also raise awareness of Dave's inspiring mission through traditional local, regional, metropolitan and national media, as well as social media applications.
The public will be able to follow the progress of the flight via the On a Wing a Chair website with a real-time location tracker of Daves current position. Dave will post daily updates of his experiences and the challenges he faces through his blog, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter updates.On the 5th June 2013, Dave Jacka became the first person with quadriplegia to fly solo around the coast of Australia. Through lack of sleep, poor weather and mechanical problems the flight was completed in 38 gruelling days.
