Jen is looking for team mates for the Welsh 3000s and Alaska

My name is Jen and I live on Exmoor National Park. I have a lifelong obsession of wild creatures and remote lands - there is nowhere else I'd rather be. Over the last two years, I have been fortunate enough to travel to Alaska, Colorado, the Italian Alps, and other breathtaking places.

I'm emailing as I'm looking for teammates to complete the Welsh 3000s - a rugged mountain route in Snowdonia National Park covering 50km and 3800m of ascent - in late June/early July. Weather-permitting (due to exposed ridges), I aim to bivvy on Snowdon and start the route at dawn by descending Crib Goch. I am looking for individuals who share the same fascination of wild lands and who have the ability to endure (with humour!),

  1. Rugged mountain terrain (scrambling and descending scree slopes)

  2. Steep and exposed aretes - particularly Crib Goch

  3. 16-20 hours of hiking

Should we work well as a team, my ultimate goal is to organise a 2-3 week backpacking trip in Gates of the Arctic National Park. Alaska is buggy, home to bears, devastatingly beautiful and extremely remote - if something happens, it will take hours (if not days) to get help - therefore, it is imperative we have an in-depth understanding of each other's skill, ability, and limitations. This knowledge only comes with time and, therefore, I will be looking to organise further ventures in the UK over the next few months.

With this in mind, I am looking for teammates to provide information on whether they have,

  1. Experience of non-supported expeditions - where/when/for how long?

  2. Previous backpacking/hiking experience - where/when/for how long?

  3. A good aerobic fitness level - i.e. do you participate/compete in endurance sports? I can't stress this enough. Any of these trips will rapidly become deeply unpleasant if your aerobic fitness isn't up to scratch and you will most likely not be able to complete the route - not such a problem in Wales but certainly in Alaska!

  4. An interest in travelling to remote wilderness areas for 2-3 weeks

  5. Any further qualifications/experience that may be useful during the Welsh 3000s and beyond (medical, navigational, etc.)

I can also confirm that the proposed trips are non-commercial and I'm happy for interested individuals to contact me on jkimiles@gmail.com.
